What we like
- Typeless fixes the most irritating part of dictation: the raw transcript. It removes fillers, repetition and corrections so the finished text reads far more naturally.
- Because it works as a keyboard, you can use it directly inside the software you're already working in rather than dictating somewhere else and copying the result across.
- Privacy has clearly been considered from the start, with no cloud retention of dictations, no model training on your content, ISO 27001 compliance and HIPAA-ready options.
Where it falls short
- Independent reviews are still relatively scarce, so there's less long-term evidence about the product than we'd like.
- The gap between $12 a month annually and $30 month-to-month is unusually large and makes the flexible option poor value.
- Voice dictation is brilliant for some kinds of writing and awkward for others. Messages and drafts are a natural fit; precise, highly structured documents may not be.
Our Verdict
Typeless tackles the part of voice dictation that has traditionally made it frustrating to use. Speaking has always been faster than typing. The problem is that normal conversation is full of filler words, abandoned thoughts and corrections that look terrible once they're transcribed. Typeless does a good job of cleaning those away before the text reaches the screen. The fact that it works inside your existing apps is just as important. There's very little workflow change required, and the free allowance is generous enough to find out whether dictation actually suits the way you work. The main caution is maturity. Typeless doesn't yet have the years of independent reviews that more established dictation products do, and the $30 monthly price is difficult to recommend against the $12 annual rate. Use the free plan first. If you find yourself reaching for Typeless every day, the paid plan starts to make sense.
