TL;DR: Both are excellent ecommerce email and SMS marketing platforms, and the right answer depends almost entirely on your size and budget. Omnisend is the better pick for most small and growing Shopify stores: it’s cheaper at nearly every tier, faster to set up, and bundles global SMS into the base plan. Klaviyo is the better pick once you’re scaling seriously, because its segmentation, predictive analytics, and data depth are in a different league, as long as you can stomach the bill. If you’re under roughly $500k a year in revenue, start with Omnisend. Above it, Klaviyo usually earns its keep.
How we compared these two
Just a quick word on our method first, because it matters here more than usual.
A surprising number of the “Omnisend vs Klaviyo” articles you find sitting on page one of Google are published by Omnisend’s own blog, or written by agencies that are paid Klaviyo partners. Both produce genuinely useful content, but neither can be considered a neutral referee deciding a fair fight. If a company selling one of the products, also writes the comparison, you can guess which one tends to win.
Rewardio doesn’t have an exclusive partnership with either platform, we have no vested interest in either. We’re a cashback site, so we’re not here to steer you towards either platform, we just give you our honest, and impartial opinion.
The comparison we’ve put together, combines each platform’s current published pricing, their documented feature sets, independent testing from across the ecommerce community, and verified user reviews on Capterra, G2, and TrustRadius. Where they genuinely tie, we say so rather than inventing a winner to make the article tidier.
The 30-second version: who each one is for
Choose Omnisend if you’re a small to mid-sized store, you want to be sending campaigns this afternoon rather than next month, SMS and push matter to you, you sell into markets outside the US and UK, or you simply want more marketing for less money.
Choose Klaviyo if you’re scaling fast, your strategy lives or dies on granular segmentation and data, you want predictive analytics like customer lifetime value and churn risk built in, and your revenue can comfortably absorb a steeper monthly bill.
Now the detail, because “it depends” is a cop-out without the reasons behind it.
What each platform actually is
Klaviyo should be considered the ‘data-first’ heavyweight of ecommerce email marketing. It was originally founded in 2012 and actually went public on the NYSE in 2023, it has built its identity around owning a rich, constantly updating profile of every customer, then using that data to drive hyper-targeted email and SMS marketing. You can think of it as a customer database that happens to send marketing emails, rather than an email tool that happens to store data. The depth is it’s main value, and likely the reason it costs what it does.
Omnisend is the ecommerce-first value player, it is more approachable than Klaviyo and great for beginners. First launched in 2014, it bundles email, SMS and push notificatiosn into one streamlined, guided toolkit, that is designed to get any store owner from signup to a live abandoned-cart flow, without a three-week onboarding process. It isn’t trying to be an all encompassing data platform. It’s trying to the fastest, easiest and most affordable way to run solid omnichanel marketing.
The lazy narrative that you’ll see elsewhere is “Omnisend is Klaviyo lite.” This undersells it. They’re different products built on different bets, not the same product at two price points.

Pricing: the difference that decides most people
Both platforms charge based on the size of your contact list rather than the number of emails you blast out, and both offer a free plan to start. After that the paths diverge, and price is where most of this comparison gets settled.
Here’s how the headline numbers stack up at the time of writing. Always check the live pricing pages before you commit, because both tweak these regularly.
| Subscribers | Omnisend (Standard) | Klaviyo (Email) |
|---|---|---|
| Free plan | 250 contacts, 500 emails | 250 contacts, 500 emails |
| 500 | ~$16/mo | ~$20/mo |
| 1,000 | ~$20/mo | ~$30/mo |
| 10,000 | ~$130/mo | ~$150/mo |
| 25,000 | ~$282/mo | ~$400/mo |
| 50,000 | ~$430/mo | ~$720/mo |
A few honest observations on what that table hides:
Omnisend is cheaper by almost every metric, and the gap only widens as your list grows. At smaller numbers, it’s only a few dollars. By the time you hit tens of thousands of subscribers, it can be a 40 to 50 percent difference, which over a year makes a massive difference!
SMS is where the gap really opens up. Where Omnisend pricing really stands out is with SMS marketing, an increasingly effective tool for business owners. Omnisend bundles SMS into all of its plans, and allows you to send texts to 200+ countries. Klaviyo treats SMS as a seperate entity, an add-on, and an expensive one at that. Not to mention, the reach of the SMS is far more limited geographically compared to Omnisend. If SMS is part of your plan, and honestly it probably should be, then the cost advantage of Omnisend is even bigger than the table suggests.
Klaviyo’s billing has a sting most comparisons skip. In a fairly unpopular move, in 2025, Klaviyo shifted its charging on ‘active profiles,’ meaning you pay for any contact you can feasibly email. The upside is somewhat fair, in that you don’t pay for unsubscribed or dead contacts the way some rivals make you. However the downside, is that the change raised bills for thousands of stores overnight, and it makes regular list hygiene a super important point if you want to keep costs sane. There’s also a 20% surcharge once your spend crosses $10,000 a month on their enterprise tier.
The fair read; Omnisend wins clearly on price and on value for money, which is reflected in the reviews. Klaviyo doesn’t really try to argue this point. It certainly doesn’t present it’s self as the value pick, their sales pitch is that the extra spend pays for itself in performance, which is a fair claim at scale and a much weaker one for a small business.
We go deeper on the full pricing maths in our pricing breakdown, but for most readers the table above tells the story.

“Omnisend pricing scales with your subscriber count, pictured 10,000 contacts.”
Ease of use and setup
This is perhaps the second best thing about Omnisend, and it’s a clear win for them, it’s not even close if you’re a beginner.
Omnisend is built for beginners and first time users. Their automation library comes with genuinely well-made, ready-to-launch templates for the flows that actually drive ecommerce revenue: welcome series, abandoned cart, browse abandonment, post-purchase, and win-back. It’s completely realistic that a first-time user will have a real flow running the same day, which is the single biggest reason smaller stores land on it.
Klaviyo on the other hand, is more powerful, but that additional power means a much steeper learning curve. Their segmentation and flow builder can reward people who already understand customer data and are willing to spend the time to architect things properly. In the right hands it’s an extraordinary tool. However for the majority of people, it can feel like being put behind the controls of a 747 Boeing plane when all you wanted to do was drive to the shops.
If you have a marketing team or an agency, Klaviyo’s complexity is an asset. If it’s just you and a Shopify store at 9pm, Omnisend’s hand-holding is worth a lot.
Segmentation, analytics, and AI
This is where Klaviyo starts to show it’s value, and it takes this category decisively.
The segmentation on Klaviyo goes deep into behavioral and transactional signals, it includes predictive analytics that Omnisend simply doesn’t offer: customer lifetime value, churn-risk scoring, and an estimate of when each customer is likely to order next. For a data-driven team, those features turn email from “send a newsletter” into “automatically reach the right person at the right moment in their buying cycle.” Klaviyo also ties email and SMS activity back to revenue with multiple attribution models, so you can clearly see what each campaign actually earned.
But that doesn’t mean Omnisend is useless at this, it covers the fundamentals well, including solid and useable segmentation and reporting that most stores will find perfectly adequate. What it doesn’t do is the predictive, revenue-attribution depth. For a smaller store that’s not much of an issue, because you’re not going to action insights, if you don’t yet have the volume to trust. For a larger operation optimising every % of spend, it’s a real limitation.
There’s an honest split, and a recurring theme: if you can’t yet tie email to revenue in a meaningful way, Klaviyo’s edge on analytics is mostly theoretical for you. Once you can tie email to revenue, it becomes a huge reason to pay the premium.

SMS, push, and omnichannel reach
Another clear win for Omnisend.
This is because Omnisend bundles SMS and push into the core product and runs SMS to 200+ countries. It’s the stronger choice for any store that wants true omnichannel sequences or sells internationally. Independent testing has repeatedly found that combining email and SMS in a single flow lifts conversion meaningfully versus email alone, and Omnisend makes that combination cheap and simple to build.
But Klaviyo does offer SMS marketing, and when it’s woven into flows, it genuinley performs well. But it’s pricier, credit-based, and far more geographically limited, which makes it a harder yes for stores outside its core markets.
If your customers are global, or SMS is central to your strategy, Omnisend’s reach and bundling are a genuine advantage.
Klaviyo vs Omnisend for Shopify
A lot of you reading this will own a Shopify store, and since a lot of people are asking this question, it deserves it’s own answer.
Both Klaviyo and Omnisend integrate natively and deeply with Shopify. Install either app and it begins syncing your historical data automatically: contacts, products, orders, and the behavioral events that power abandoned-cart and post-purchase flows. You won’t go wrong on the basics with either.
But where they differ for Shopify specifically:
- Klaviyo has historically been the default serious-Shopify ESP, and it supports a wider range of integrations and platforms overall. If your stack is complex or you’re plugging in multiple data sources, Klaviyo tends to play nicer.
- Omnisend matches the core Shopify experience, costs less, launches faster, and bundles the SMS that Shopify stores increasingly rely on.
The cleanest decision rule we’ve seen, and one we agree with: if your Shopify store is doing roughly $500k a year in revenue or more, Klaviyo’s segmentation, reporting, and AI usually justify the cost. Below that, Omnisend gives you most of the result for noticeably less money and far less setup pain. Revenue, segmentation depth, and SMS strategy are the three things to weigh, in that order.
A small caveat worth its own sentence: be a little wary of the “we tested both for 90 days” comparison posts that arrive at suspiciously absolute verdicts. Some are excellent and genuinely hands-on. Others test on empty dummy accounts and just dress it up. The decision rule above holds regardless of whose blog you read it on.
What real users say
Here’s where it gets pretty interesting, because the review sites flatly disagree with each other, and that disagreement tells you more than any single score could.
On the software-review platforms, where the people leaving feedback are mostly active, paying users who chose the tool deliberately, the two are neck and neck. Omnisend sits at roughly 4.7 on Capterra and Klaviyo at around 4.6, with much the same story on G2 and TrustRadius. By that measure, both are well-loved products and there’s barely a hairs width between them.
But then you land on Trustpilot, and the picture flips violently. Omnisend holds a 4.4 out of 5 across 479 reviews, rated “Excellent.” Klaviyo sits at 1.8 across 357 reviews, rated “Poor.” This is significant, it’s one of the widest gaps between two direct competitors that we’ve come across.

So which score is the real one? Both are, and working out why is the genuinely useful part.
It must be noted, that Trustpilot attracts a different crowd than Capterra does. It’s an open consumer platform where people tend to arrive when something has gone wrong, so it skews toward billing shocks, support frustrations, and bad days, rather than steady day-to-day satisfaction. Software-review sites tend to lean the other way, towards engaged users rating a product’s capabilities. Neither is lying. They’re measuring different moments in the customer relationship.
What matters is what Klaviyo’s Trustpilot reviewers actually complain about, because it maps precisely onto the weaknesses we flagged earlier in this comparison. The loudest themes are cost, with reviewers describing a platform that keeps getting more expensive without obvious return at the higher tiers, and support that feels slow or unhelpful when something breaks. The 2025 billing change shows up repeatedly. Omnisend’s reviews cluster on the opposite: responsive support, patient staff, and a setup people found easy.
One small detail in the corner of those pages says a lot. Omnisend has replied to 100 percent of its negative Trustpilot reviews, usually within a week. Klaviyo hasn’t replied to its negative reviews at all. That single contrast probably accounts for a fair slice of the gap on its own, and it tells you how each company tends to treats customers that are already unhappy.
The honest takeaway: don’t read Klaviyo’s 1.8 as “Klaviyo is a bad product,” because it plainly isn’t. It’s a powerful platform that sophisticated teams rely on every day, which is exactly why it scores well where power users review it. Read the Trustpilot score instead as a loud, specific warning about the two things that bite Klaviyo customers hardest, cost and support, and decide how much weight those carry for a business your size before you sign up.
Pros and cons at a glance
Omnisend
Best for: small and growing stores that want strong, affordable omnichannel marketing without a steep setup.
What it does well
- Cheaper than Klaviyo at almost every contact tier, and the gap widens as you grow
- Email, SMS, and push bundled together, with SMS that works in 200-plus countries
- Fast, guided setup backed by genuinely useful ready-made automation templates
- Consistently top marks for support and value across review sites
Where it falls short
- No predictive analytics, so no customer lifetime value or churn scoring
- Runs short on depth for very large, data-heavy operations
- A smaller third-party integration ecosystem than Klaviyo’s
Klaviyo
Best for: larger, data-led stores that will actually use advanced segmentation and can absorb a higher bill.

- Best-in-class segmentation built on the deepest customer data of the two
- Predictive analytics included, covering lifetime value, churn risk, and likely next-order date
- Detailed revenue attribution that ties individual campaigns directly to sales
- The widest integration ecosystem, which pays off with a complex tech stack
- A slight edge on email deliverability in independent testing
Where it falls short
- Support responsiveness is a recurring complaint, as its Trustpilot score reflects
- Expensive, and the 2025 switch to active-profile billing pushed many bills higher
- A steeper learning curve that rewards proper teams over solo founders
- SMS is a pricier, credit-based add-on with limited country coverage
So, which is better?
It’s really very close, honestly they’re aimed at different stages of the same journey, so it’s hard to choose one or the other.
For the majority of people reading this, particularly Shopify merchants under the $10k a month mark, Omnisend is the better starting point. You get most of the marketing firepower, a far easier set up, the omnichanel reach, and pricing that is just a bit more pallatable each month.
Klaviyo earns its premium price once you start to scale, when squeezing an extra 8 to 10 percent of performance out of deeper segmentation and predictive data genuinely moves the revenue needle by more than the higher cost. At that point the price stops being an expense and starts being an investment with a measurable return.
The good news is that this isn’t a marriage. Plenty of stores start on Omnisend, grow, and migrate to Klaviyo when the maths flips. Starting cheap and simple costs you nothing if you outgrow it later.
And if Omnisend turns out to be your pick, you can claim 10% cashback on it through Rewardio, which quietly trims that monthly bill a little further.
Frequently asked questions
Is Omnisend cheaper than Klaviyo? Yes, at almost every contact tier, and the gap widens as your list grows. The difference is largest once SMS is involved, because Omnisend bundles it while Klaviyo charges separately.
Which is better for a Shopify store? Both integrate deeply with Shopify. Omnisend suits smaller and growing stores that want value and speed; Klaviyo suits larger stores, roughly $500k a year in revenue and up, that need advanced segmentation and analytics.

Transparency note: This comparison is based on each platform’s published pricing, documented features, independent testing, and verified user reviews, rather than a paid hands-on benchmark by us. Where the two genuinely tie, we’ve said so. Rewardio may earn a cashback commission if you choose Omnisend through our links; that hasn’t shaped the verdict, which is why Klaviyo wins several of the head-to-head sections above outright.
