| This policy explains what cookies and similar technologies we use on Rewardio, what each one does, and how you can control them. The most important thing to know upfront: if you block cashback tracking cookies, your cashback won’t track. |
This Cookies Policy covers how [Rewardio Ltd](“Rewardio”, “we”, “us”, “our”) uses cookies and similar technologies on the Rewardio website at rewardio.com (the “Site”). It sits alongside our Privacy Policy, which explains more broadly how we handle your personal information.

1. What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store on your device. The file contains a short string of letters and numbers. By itself, that string doesn’t say anything about you — it’s not your name or your email address — but it lets the website recognise your browser the next time you visit, or as you move from page to page.
Cookies do useful work. They keep you signed in. They remember the choices you’ve made. They let us count visitors and see which pages people use. And, in our case specifically, they’re how an affiliate network knows that the purchase you just made at a merchant came from a click on Rewardio — so we can pay you cashback.
In this policy, when we say “cookies”, we also mean similar technologies that do similar things — pixels, web beacons, local storage, software development kits (SDKs), and device identifiers. The same principles and choices apply.
2. First-party vs third-party cookies
First-party cookies are set by Rewardio directly. We use them for things like keeping you signed in and remembering your preferences.
Third-party cookies are set by other companies whose services we use — for example, an analytics provider, an affiliate network, or an advertising platform. Where third parties set cookies via Rewardio, the data they collect is governed by their own privacy policies, which we link to where we can. We’ve chosen our third parties carefully, but we don’t control them, and we’d recommend reading their policies if you want the full picture.
3. How long cookies stay on your device
Session cookies disappear as soon as you close your browser. We use these for things like keeping your sign-in active while you move around the Site.
Persistent cookies stay on your device until they expire (each cookie has a set lifetime) or until you delete them. We use these to remember preferences across visits, and affiliate networks use them to track a click-to-purchase journey that might span hours or days.
The actual lifetime of each cookie varies — some last for a few minutes, others for up to a year or two. Our cookie banner shows you the expiry of each individual cookie if you want the detail.
4. The categories of cookies we use
We group the cookies we set (or allow others to set via Rewardio) into five categories. The table below summarises each one. The cookie banner on the Site itself gives you the up-to-date list of individual cookies in each category, because that list changes more often than this document does.
| Category | What it’s for | Examples | Needs your consent? |
| Strictly necessary | Cookies the site can’t function without. They keep you signed in, secure your session, support fraud-prevention checks, and remember the choices you make in our cookie banner. | Session cookies, login tokens, security cookies, the cookie that records your cookie preferences. | No — these are exempt from consent because the site genuinely doesn’t work without them. |
| Cashback tracking | Cookies set by affiliate networks when you click through to a merchant, so your purchase can be matched back to your account and you can earn cashback. See section 5 for the full picture. | Cookies set by Impact, Awin, CJ, and similar affiliate networks at the moment you click a merchant link. | Yes — but if you decline, your cashback won’t track. |
| Functionality | Cookies that remember your preferences and personalise your experience — for example, which merchants you’ve favourited, what country you’re in, or whether you’ve dismissed a particular notice. | Preference cookies, language/region cookies, recently-viewed merchant cookies. | Yes. |
| Analytics | Cookies that help us understand how the site is used — which pages are popular, where people click, where they get stuck — so we can improve it. | Google Analytics, similar product-analytics tools. | Yes. |
| Marketing & advertising | Cookies that help us measure the effectiveness of our marketing, attribute new sign-ups to the campaigns that drove them, and (where you’ve consented) show you Rewardio ads on other sites. | Cookies set by Meta, Google Ads, and other advertising platforms we work with. | Yes. |
Important: the cookies in the “strictly necessary” category are exempt from consent because the Site cannot operate without them. Every other category requires your active consent before we’ll set the cookie. If you don’t consent, we won’t drop those cookies — but as explained in section 5, declining cashback tracking cookies will mean your cashback doesn’t track.
5. Affiliate network cookies — the ones that make cashback work
This section deserves special attention because cashback tracking is the heart of what Rewardio does, and the cookies that make it work behave a little differently from typical site cookies.
Here’s how it works in practice. When you click on a merchant from Rewardio, your browser is briefly redirected through the affiliate network the merchant uses (for example, Impact, Awin, or CJ). At that moment, the affiliate network drops a cookie on your browser. The cookie contains a tracking identifier that ties any subsequent purchase you make at the merchant back to your Rewardio account. When the merchant or network confirms the sale, we receive commission and credit cashback to your account.
Without that cookie, no tracking. If the cookie is blocked — by your browser settings, by a privacy extension, by clearing cookies between clicking and buying, or by you declining tracking cookies in our banner — your purchase will not be associated with your Rewardio account, and you will not earn cashback on it. There’s no workaround we can apply after the fact.
Other things that can disrupt this tracking:
- Visiting another coupon, deal, or cashback site between clicking the Rewardio link and completing your purchase. Those sites can drop their own cookies that overwrite ours.
- Using a different browser or device for the purchase than the one you clicked through on.
- Privacy modes (e.g. private browsing, incognito) that don’t persist cookies.
- Browser-level tracking protection or extensions that block third-party cookies wholesale.
- Ad-blockers and anti-tracking tools, which often treat affiliate cookies the same as ad cookies.
These aren’t things we control. We mention them so you know what to avoid if you want your cashback to track reliably.
Why we treat this as a separate consent category. Affiliate network cookies are technically third-party cookies, and under UK and EU rules they require your consent. We’ve chosen to put them in their own category in our cookie banner — separate from analytics and marketing — so you can make a deliberate choice about them. Most members opt in, because opting out means giving up the entire reason for using Rewardio. But the choice is yours.
6. Analytics and marketing cookies
Analytics. We use analytics tools to understand how Rewardio is used in aggregate — which merchants are popular, which pages people land on, where in the sign-up flow people drop off. This helps us improve the Site over time. The data we look at is generally aggregated and not focused on individual users. We use Google Analytics among other tools, and we configure these to respect your consent choices.
Marketing and advertising. If you consent, we use cookies and similar technologies to:
- measure the effectiveness of our marketing campaigns and attribute new sign-ups back to the campaign that drove them;
- show Rewardio ads to you on other sites and apps (for example, on Meta or Google);
- limit how often you see the same ad, and avoid showing you ads for things you’ve already done (like signing up).
These cookies are typically set by the advertising platforms themselves, and any data they collect is governed by their own privacy policies. The most common ones we work with are Google and Meta — their cookie and privacy practices are documented on their respective sites.
We don’t sell your information to any of these platforms for them to market other companies to you. The data flowing to them via these cookies is for our marketing of Rewardio, not theirs of someone else.
7. How we ask for your consent
The first time you visit Rewardio, you’ll see a cookie banner asking what you want us to do. You can:
- Accept all cookies — we’ll set everything in the categories above.
- Reject all non-essential cookies — we’ll only set strictly necessary cookies. Cashback won’t track in this state, and analytics/marketing cookies won’t fire.
- Choose category by category — you can opt in to some categories and not others.
Until you’ve made a choice, we won’t set any cookie that requires consent. The only cookies that fire before you choose are the strictly necessary ones — including the small cookie that records what your choice ultimately was, so we don’t have to keep asking you.
You can change your choice at any time. We’ll re-ask for fresh consent at least every 12 months, or if we add a meaningful new category of cookie, whichever comes first.
8. How to manage or change your cookie preferences
There are three places you can change what we do:
1. The Rewardio cookie settings link. There’s a “Cookie settings” link in the footer of every page on the Site. Click it any time to revisit the cookie banner and update your choices. Changes take effect immediately for new browsing — cookies already set under your old choice will be removed (or stop being read, depending on the cookie) when you change to a more restrictive setting.
2. Your browser settings. Every modern browser lets you block, delete, or fine-tune cookies. The exact path varies by browser — see section 9 for links.
3. Opt-out tools from the third parties themselves. For advertising in particular, the major ad networks offer their own opt-out pages. Useful starting points include youronlinechoices.com (UK and EU) and optout.aboutads.info (US). These let you opt out of personalised advertising across many ad networks at once.
9. Browser-level controls
Each browser handles cookie controls slightly differently. The links below take you to the official help pages for the major browsers, where you’ll find current instructions for blocking cookies, deleting them, and managing site-by-site permissions:
- Google Chrome — support.google.com/chrome/answer/95647
- Apple Safari — support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/safari/manage-cookies
- Mozilla Firefox — support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/cookies
- Microsoft Edge — support.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge
- Opera — help.opera.com/en/latest/web-preferences
You can also visit aboutcookies.org for general guidance on how cookies work and how to manage them across different platforms.
A heads-up: blocking all cookies at the browser level is a blunt instrument. It will stop cashback tracking working, and it will probably break parts of the Site (and many other sites) that depend on cookies for normal functionality. The Rewardio cookie settings link is a more targeted way to control what we do specifically.
10. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals
Do Not Track (DNT). Some browsers offer a “Do Not Track” setting that sends a signal to every site you visit. There’s no industry-wide agreement on what sites should do with this signal, and it has effectively been deprecated. We don’t currently respond to DNT signals — instead, we offer the granular cookie controls described above, which we think give you better control.
Global Privacy Control (GPC). GPC is a newer browser-level signal that’s recognised under California law (CCPA/CPRA) and is gaining traction elsewhere. Where applicable law requires us to honour GPC — particularly for users in California — we treat a GPC signal as an opt-out of the sale or sharing of personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising, in line with the rights set out in our Privacy Policy.
11. Mobile devices and similar technologies
If we make Rewardio available through a mobile app or browser extension in future, those products may use technologies that work like cookies — including local storage, advertising identifiers (such as Apple’s IDFA or Google’s AAID), and SDKs from analytics or advertising partners. Where they do, we’ll update this policy and ask for your consent in the same way we do for cookies on the website.
Mobile operating systems also offer their own privacy controls. On iOS, App Tracking Transparency lets you control whether apps can use your advertising identifier. On Android, you can reset or limit ad personalisation in your device settings. We’ll respect those system-level choices.
12. Other websites you visit through Rewardio
Most of what you do on Rewardio ends with a click through to a merchant’s own website. Once you’re on the merchant’s site, you’re outside Rewardio — and the merchant will set its own cookies, governed by its own cookie policy. We don’t control or take responsibility for what other sites do, and we’d recommend reading the cookie policy of any merchant you’re not familiar with.
The same applies to any other third-party site we link to (help articles, social media, blog references, and so on).
13. Changes to this policy
We’ll update this policy from time to time — most often when we add or remove a tool that uses cookies, or to reflect changes in the law. The “Last updated” date at the top tells you when the current version was published.
For minor changes (clarifications, fixes, formatting), we’ll just publish the new version. For changes that meaningfully affect what cookies we use or how you can control them — particularly if we add a new category — we’ll re-prompt you in the cookie banner so you can make a fresh choice.
